More Than Waiting For Time To Pass
ACL Rehab, Progressed Properly
Recovering from an ACL injury or reconstruction isn't simply a matter of counting weeks. At Forge Injury & Performance, rehabilitation is progressed using your symptoms, movement, strength, functional capacity and goals — so each step forward is based on how your knee is actually doing.
Whether you're a few weeks post-surgery or months into rehab elsewhere, our sports physiotherapy and sports rehabilitation team can assess where you are and help plan what comes next, working alongside any guidance from your surgeon or treating clinician.

We can support you through
- Post-operative rehabilitation
- Restoring knee movement
- Managing early strength deficits
- Progressive gym-based strengthening
- Single-leg strength and control
- Running preparation
- Plyometric progression
- Return-to-sport preparation
Everyone's recovery is different. We don't promise specific outcomes or recovery times — we focus on steady, criteria-based progress.
Five Stages, One Plan
Our ACL Rehabilitation Approach
Progression is individual and criteria-based — you move on when you meet the markers for the next stage, not because a date on the calendar says so.
- 01
Assess
Establish your current stage of rehabilitation using appropriate measures such as symptoms, swelling, knee range of motion, strength and functional capacity.
- 02
Rebuild
Restore fundamental movement and progressively rebuild lower-limb capacity.
- 03
Strengthen
Progress gym-based rehabilitation using increasingly demanding bilateral and single-leg exercises.
- 04
Prepare
Introduce running, jumping, landing, change-of-direction and sport-specific demands when appropriate.
- 05
Return
Use objective testing alongside clinical reasoning to help guide progression towards your activity or sporting goals.
Objective Measures
Rehabilitation You Can Measure
How the knee feels matters — but it isn't the whole picture. Where appropriate, we use objective strength and functional assessment to monitor your rehabilitation and help guide decisions about progression.
Which measures we use depends on your stage, your symptoms and the guidance from your surgeon or treating clinician. Results are explained clearly, so you understand what's improving and what still needs work.
The Forge Difference
ACL Rehab Doesn't Stop At The Treatment Bed
Forge is based inside a fully equipped training facility, so clinical rehabilitation and progressive gym-based strength & conditioning happen under one roof. Our strength & conditioning input is led by Theo Morgan, working alongside the rest of the Forge team.
The aim is to help bridge the gap that often opens up between finishing early rehab and getting back to your sport — where clinically appropriate.

Case studies coming soon
We only publish case studies with a client's consent, and we won't invent stories or results. As genuine ACL rehabilitation journeys are written up, they'll appear here — showing how assessment, strength work and objective testing were used at each stage.
We work within the guidance of your surgeon or treating clinician. If anything in your assessment suggests you need further medical review, we'll tell you and help you understand the next step.
Got Questions?
ACL Rehab FAQs
How long does ACL rehabilitation take?
Timelines vary with the surgery, injury characteristics, symptoms, strength, function, sporting demands and clinical guidance. Rehabilitation is progressed individually, and return to sport should not be based on time alone. Your surgeon's guidance and any associated injuries also inform the plan.
When can I start running after ACL reconstruction?
Running is introduced when recovery, strength and functional capacity meet appropriate criteria, alongside your surgical and clinical guidance. We assess your current stage and response to loading rather than giving everyone the same start date.
Do I need to be an athlete to have ACL rehab at Forge?
No. Rehabilitation is tailored to your goals, whether that means everyday activities, gym training, recreational running or competitive sport.
Can I come to Forge if I've already started ACL rehab elsewhere?
Yes. We can assess your current symptoms, movement, strength and capacity, review your existing rehabilitation and clinical guidance, and agree appropriate next steps. Please bring any relevant surgical or rehabilitation information.
Do you provide strength testing during ACL rehabilitation?
Yes. We use appropriate strength and functional assessments to help guide rehabilitation, including lower-limb strength, single-leg capacity and movement control. Measures are selected for your stage and repeated where useful to monitor progress; no single test guarantees readiness for sport.
